When Scarlette woke up the next day, the sky was already bright. She glanced at the clock and realized that it was already 7:30 a. m.
"Oh no!" Scarlette gasped.
It was Monday, and she had to go to work. She had planned to get up at 7 o'clock so that she would not be late to work.
However, she had trouble sleeping the night before and stayed up until late at night. Thus, she overslept.
After washing up, Scarlette hurried down the stairs.
"Madam." Ethan's voice sounded from the living room.
Hearing Ethan's voice, Scarlette looked towards him.
Ethan was standing by the dining table, and Marcellus was already dressed up meticulously. His slender fingers were holding a knife and fork as he ate his breakfast. It seemed that he had been there for a while.
"Good morning." Scarlette was stunned for a moment before she slowly uttered the greeting.
Ethan pulled out the chair beside Marcellus and motioned her to come over.
Looking at Marcellus' eyes that were as cold as ice, Scarlette shook her head and mumbled, "I'm not hungry."
She didn't know whether he was still mad at her. If he was, wouldn't the sight of her make him angrier?
She wouldn't be that foolish to sit next to him.
As she spoke, Scarlette tried to scurry away.
"Come here and sit down." Marcellus lifted his eyes slightly, glanced at her, and ordered.
Scarlette did not dare to disobey Marcellus. She walked over obediently and sat down.
Then, Ethan served Scarlette's breakfast and left the room.
Marcellus continued to eat silently, but Scarlette did not dare to move an inch.
She still felt guilty when facing him. If he learned that she had seen the card, she wondered if he would kill her on the spot.
Not only that, Marcellus was eating gracefully. His manners made him look like a noble elite. Scarlette couldn't bring herself to eat with him around.
Half a minute later, Marcellus put down the knife and fork in his hand. He picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth and said blandly, "Finish the food."
"Oh, okay." Scarlette didn't dare to hesitate. She downed the bread and milk with the speed of lightning.
When Scarlette had finished her breakfast and hurried out, Marcellus's car was already waiting at the entrance.
It appeared as though he was waiting for her.
Scarlette was a little hesitant. Rumors were to be feared. If the company's employees saw her getting out of the director's car, it would set off a huge storm of gossips about her.
Besides, she didn't want to be in the same car as him. It was too stressful for her.
She wanted to live longer!
Hence, Scarlette chose her words cautiously as she said, "I can go to the company by taking the subway. I don't want to bother you."
Marcellus was reading the newspaper when he heard Scarlette's words. He raised his gaze and turned to look at her. His stare lingered on Scarlette's blushing face for a few seconds.
He then asked, "Scarlette, have you forgotten?"
Scarlette was dumbfounded, "Forgotten about what?"
"You are my wife."
"Oh." Scarlette didn't say anything more and got into the car obediently.
Because of his words, Scarlette's heart suddenly became soft and mushy.
No matter what unhappy things had occurred between her and Marcellus, and no matter what Marcellus' past was.
Now, they were husband and wife.
If everything went smoothly, they would be spending the rest of their lives together.
